Methodology

E&D: Diversity Strategies

A creative, foresight-driven methodology based on adaptive strategies. By interconnecting knowledge from diverse scientific-technical fields, it obtains new knowledge.

What E&D enables

Catalyzes time

Accelerates the generation of ideas and solutions.

Networks of ideas

Facilitates the genesis of networks of innovative ideas and disruptive R&D lines.

New objectives

Describes how to reach new objectives of high interest, additional to the one originally posed.

Unexpected collaborations

Reveals how capabilities, materials and processes interrelate between apparently very dissimilar suppliers and companies.

Process

How an E&D is run

  1. Objective and team

A potential objective of interest is defined. With this main objective set, Aleen selects the profile of an interdisciplinary scientific team.

  2. Collective intelligence session

The team generates the most detailed description possible of how the objective could be achieved, voluntarily applies diversity strategies to those descriptions, reinterprets the results to obtain new objectives, and defines and evaluates the required R&D, supplier and collaborator profiles.

  3. Knowledge engineering with AI

The process is reinforced by AI assistance that accelerates data mining and maximizes search efficacy, while the team proposes, refines and weighs the results. The human team is the natural selector that steers.

  4. Synthesis

The client selects the objectives and developments it finds most interesting within the solution network. The team synthesizes them into minimal elements to guide the later development of one or several solutions — not only the originally sought one.

  5. Report: a roadmap

A roadmap toward the selected objectives: use, technical and functional descriptions, significant technologies, advantages and innovations, required R&D lines, supplier profiles, applications and reuse, industrial ecology and process synergy.

Advantages of E&D

"How" over "what"

The process prioritizes the "how" question. Working directly on the set of variability makes novel contributions easier to guarantee.

Diversity and convergence

Multiple additional answers emerge, unrelated to the starting problem, often more innovative and successful than the solution originally sought.

Rules based on bio-strategies

Knowledge interaction is regulated, analogous to the strategies nature uses to obtain diversity, applied over descriptive chains.

Transversal focus

Favors interaction between disciplines and teams that usually work separately: adaptive capacity (horizontality) that matures into efficiency (verticality).
